So, some of you know we’ve been working on a new record (no foolin’, we really have). After the theft of my laptop-which included several completed tracks, my house flooding, and about a hundred other things that slowed down it’s release, we are super excited to announce that July will see the 3rd release from The Lovely Sparrows. It’s our first full length album, and we’re calling it Bury the Cynics. It will be released on both compact disc and vinyl. We’ve posted a track over on the Audio/Video page called Department of Foreseeable Outcomes that I hope you’ll enjoy. It’s one of the more “patient” tracks on Bury the Cynics, and I think it serves as a good introduction to the album. Not so much a “HELLO! PLEASED TO MEET YOU!” as a “Do come in and stay for a while. No the dogs don’t bite. Yes, you may have a cookie.” But, if you want to read something bordering on pretentious I wrote about the album to give the artist designing our album art, Derek Van Gieson, a feel for it before I had any songs finished, you can find that on the About page, under the “official” bio.

AND said record (finally) has a title! Whew. The forthcoming album is called… Bury the Cynics! We’re really excited about this one. It will be a 10 song cd (released by Abandoned Love Records and the Rebel Group), and there will be a vinyl release with extra goodies! Please bear with us as we update and switch over the website. It’s long overdue. We’ll be tweaking it and adding some new tracks from the record over the next couple of weeks.

We’ve started mixing the album (finally!). It will have eleven new songs and will be released on vinyl as well as CD. We’ve got some other surprises in the works, so stay tuned.
We’re going to be in New York for a few shows next week. Hope you can make it out to one of them.
We’re also excited to announce that we made the early list for SXSW!

We’re making progress on the new album! We have about nine songs recorded so far, a few you’ve heard on the Daytrotter sessions, but mostly brand new, and rarely played tracks. The record is looking to be between 10-13 songs, and will be released on vinyl too. We’re also excited to welcome our new manager Ben Losi from the Rebel Group into the flock. Please direct all unpaid bar tabs to him. Not really, don’t do that, we’re a hand full as it is! But you can direct booking inquiries to him. You’ll find him on the contact page. Thanks for all the invitations to play, I promise we’re keeping track of them, and will make it your way on the next tour.

We are happy we were included on the new Natrix Natrix compilation, alongside such awesome artists/bands as Jana Hunter, Deer Tick, Karrie Hopper, Spencer Kingman, Nat Baldwin, and Viking Moses. The song we recorded is called “While I was out sailing” and is unreleased.
Other news: The full length is well under way. After the minor setback of the stolen laptop, we’re back on track (almost). I’ll be in Oklahoma City recording some string parts in the next few weeks. Hooray for progress.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows in Brooklyn. We never expected such great crowds on our first trip to NY. We appreciate all the help we received with lost/replacement gear, and to the bands that let us borrow their amps and/or drumkits. Also, you should check out Amber Papini/Trumpet, our new favorite band to play with!
And a personal note to the person who stole Shawn’s laptop (which contained tons of demos, and several songs from the new album) at the airport, echoed in the vernacular of our favorite Brooklyn cabbie : “Fuck you very much.”

The Daytrotter session is up!!!! Go!
These are four songs from our session we recorded on the last tour. (Speaking of tour, check out new tour dates. East coast here we come.) We had a blast doing it, and I think it comes across in the songs. Three of them are unreleased tracks that might make their way to the new album, which is looking to be released in the fall/winter.
And speaking of albums, we’re almost out of the EP. Less than 30 copies left, and from what I hear the distributors are almost out as well! Hooray for selling out.
