Here’s a demo from the new (forthcoming) record. It’ll probably end up being more fleshed out, drums, etc. Everyone’s always saying the Sparrows aren’t the most upbeat music (and that’s probably true), but I think this one’s fairly optimistic. I’m not saying you’re gonna hear it at a wedding, but you know… it’s a start.

People have been telling us we should have a Facebook page, not a group. I guess we’re not the most technologically swift band. Forgive us, we’ve since fired our secretary.
We also just noticed all of our recent posts somehow got lost… ah, viva technology. So here’s the quick rundown: The new record’s wrapping up, coming out with a book +-January 2011. The book will feature art by Derek Van Gieson (Fantagraphics), old friend and awesome artist.
We’ve also added two new band members, Justin Sherburn (Okkervil River) on guitar, and Lindsay Greene (Victrola) on bass. We’ll be debuting the new songs, and touring line up in the next month or so here in Austin. We have been calm, collected and cool for quite some time… but the rock, she no longer can be contained! It will be a show not to be missed.

I recorded Take Care very quickly, in down time- between working on sparrows songs for the new record, just to clear my head. I’ve only listened to this song maybe 5 times ever. Probably not even that many. The Big Star version only once. I accidentally put it on the demos disc that I burned for Eric Power to work on ideas for videos for the new record. He called and asked if he could make a video for it. How could I say no?

We have not vanished! I’ve been working on a few non-Sparrow related things as-of-late, a couple of documentary soundtracks, finished recording the Robert Ellis record (I think it’s a great record. Robert is the moustached gentleman in some of our tour pics), hanging out with the dogs, and curling up with good books. I can tell you I/we are working on something that I’m really excited about for the fall. But I won’t say more than that right now! I will, however, give you a list of books that I’ve been enjoying… kind of catching up on several “must reads” that I’ve missed along the way.
1. Ham On Rye- I had always heard Bukowski was a pretentious asshole, who wrote books for pretentious people. I’m not sure what this says about me that I really enjoyed it, and thought it was fun.
2. The Neverending Story- Don’t laugh. It’s really good. You need the version with green and red ink.
3. All Families Are Psychotic
4. The Plot Against America
5. Henderson the Rain King
